INITIAL DRIVER CPC

Course Details

There are four modules to qualify as a new HGV driver.  Modules 2 and module 4 are what are known as the initial driver CPC qualification. You will need to pass both modules to complete your initial CPC. On completion you will receive you Driver Qualifications Card (DQC) which allows you to drive commercially. 

Initial CPC includes:

• Module 2 – Case study: This is 7 individual case studies, with 6 to 8 questions per case study. Each case study is based on a real-life scenario that you are likely to encounter as an individual permitted to drive LGV vehicles. The pass mark is 40 out of 50
• Module 4 – Demonstration test: Practical associated knowledge exam. No driving is required for this part, but you will need a suitable vehicle to demonstrate your answers. It’s all about what a driver does whilst not driving. This may include checking the vehicle is not incorrectly loaded or overloaded, securing a load with the correct restraining devices, checking a vehicle is safe and in good working order before taking it on the public highway etc.

What you’ll achieve:

On completion of both modules you will be issued with your initial DQC which is valid for 5 years. Within that 5 years and every 5 years thereafter you will then become subject to periodic Driver CPC training, i.e. 35 hours of training every 5 years.
